      Rules & Regulations

The Catholic Institute of Business and Technology (CIBT) recognise the uniqueness and dignity of every student and his or her potential for good and thereby seeks to engender and encourage not only academic excellence, but also growth in personal and corporate discipline. A consideration of the student as a maturing and responsible adult underpins all disciplinary actions at CIBT. Therefore, disciplinary actions are taken with the aim of enhancing and developing in the student a Christian responsibility for the common good of society and individual self-actualisation. Students are expected to be responsible in both speech and deed.

Students who attempt to commit or actually do commit offences, whether on the Institute’s premises, outside of the Institute’s premises shall face a disciplinary sanction. The Institute reserves the right, notwithstanding any provisions of these rules and regulations, to refer any offence to the appropriate civil or criminal authority as and when the Institute deems it appropriate. A disciplinary sanction to be imposed for an offence may be one or more of the following:

A disciplinary sanction to be imposed for an offence may be one or more of the following:

      • Written reprimand for the violation of specified rule(s) or regulation(s) contained herein
      • Order for restitution or the payment for damages or injury caused
      • A fine not exceeding GH¢500.00 (five hundred Ghana cedis), and/or a bond for good behaviour
      • Denial of access to specified facilities and/or services of the Institute for a period not exceeding one academic year.
      • Dismissal: When civil or criminal charges are pending against a student in the law courts, the Institute may dismiss the student if his/her continued presence at the Institute will be offensive to the Institute’s vision and mission.

This handbook is to help students understand how the Catholic Institute of Business and Technology (CIBT) is organised, what role is expected of the students and how they can make the most of their stay in the Institute.

      • The term “Junior Member”, otherwise referred to as “Student” shall apply to any person who is enrolled, for the time being, in CIBT for an approved programme of study.
      • Rules and Regulations affecting Junior Members shall be made by the Academic Board, in accordance with the Statutes of the Institute.
      • In addition, the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) and Services Units of the Institute may issue its own rules governing the conduct of Junior Members within its domain, as long as they are not inconsistent with the general rules made by the Academic Board. Such rules must be approved by the Academic Board.
      • Copies of all regulations shall be deposited with the President, Registrar, Dean of Academic Affairs, Dean of Students and Heads of Department.
      • These Rules and Regulations apply to and are binding on all Junior Members. Ignorance of the rules and regulations or any public notice shall not be accepted as an excuse for any breach of them and prevent the enforcement of any approved sanctions.
      • All cases of breach of discipline will attract sanctions which may involve a fine, suspension or dismissal. The President shall be the ultimate authority on all disciplinary matters.
      • Every student is expected to be registered with the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), and submit a medical examination report as pre-requisites for registration

It is necessary that a standard of proper conduct be adhered to so that one member’s freedom does not impinge on another member’s rights. Junior Members are expected to maintain discipline and courtesy and refrain from actions likely to cause embarrassment to the Institute and to one another
